Governors Island Doors

I photographed a few doors while on the #Optic2019 tour of the island on Tuesday.

Dumbo OPTIC2019

Three solid days of Optic2019 by B&H are finally over and I have time to start processing the images taken during the excursions. I woke up too late today to take in this one in for the free critique that was part of Optic2019 day four.

My fellow photographers and I boarded double decker sightseeing busses outside B&H at 6:30 pm on June 2nd. We crossed the Manhattan Bridge to alight at Brooklyn Bridge Park for photo shoots at various locations along the shore.

While taking the photos for this composite by the East River with a slow shutter speed I was doused head to foot with a wave. It tasted salty from the mixed waters of the estuary.

At about 8:30 pm we piled back on the busses. On the way home there was a huge thunder storm and we all got soaked, either from being on top of the bus or after getting off the bus.

I can’t thank B&H and everyone involved enough, especially David Brommer, for making this event so much fun. #OPTIC2109

Choose One

I plan to use one of these for a show to be judged in OPTIC2019 by B&H. I need to pick one by tomorrow and I am having trouble. I’d love to know which one you would you choose? HELP!

Results as of 3 pm EST 6/1/2019: Hermit Thrush won.
Flower, Hudson 2, Tulip leaves 1, Hermit Trhush 5, Scarlet Tanager 4, Yellowthroat 2, Yellowthroat female 1, Iris 2.

Thank you for taking the time to help me choose.

Tulip Leaves

I replaced the Background to remove distracting elements and create a better composition. When I photographed this with my phone (Galaxy 8+) I had this end result in mind.

Barrett Fountain

This fountain honors children’s book author Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924). The Conservatory Garden, which reopened to the public in 1937, was chosen as the perfect site for this memorial erected by Friends of Burnett. The reclining boy playing the flute and a young girl holding the bowl may represent Mary and Dickon, the main characters in The Secret Garden. The bowl is a functioning birdbath where small birds drink.
