I had a hard time finding decent restaurants in the Poconos until a fellow traveler recommended Skytop Lodge | Poconos Resort | Skytop, PA. We dined at the Windsor. It was the best meal of the trip. I enjoyed exploring the fancy building and grounds.
Pennsylvania
Kutztown
The Kutztown countryside with covered bridges and red barns is idyllic. “Like most of Berks County, Kutztown was settled predominantly by Germans, most of whom came from the Palatinate region of southwest Germany, which borders the Rhine river.” (Kutztown, Pennsylvania – Wikipedia.) We drove through Greenwich, Pennsylvania too.
Crystal Cave
We did a touristy thing and visited Historic Crystal Cave | First Show Cave in Pennsylvania (crystalcavepa.com). The history page is intersting. The cave was discovered in 1871 and some of the rock formations are a half-million years old (Crystal Cave (Pennsylvania) – Wikipedia.)
Paradise Creek & Tobyhanna SP
After a walk in Paradise Creek and Tobyhanna State Park we had a cook out. The nice thing about vacationing in the Autumn is there are almost no people, especially when it rains off an on.
Millbrook Village
Millbrook Village in Delaware Water Gap (njskylands.com) is a charming old historical place with many lovely buildings and things to photograph.
Delaware Water Gap
In October we spent a week in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. The main purpose was to see the Fall Colors and waterfalls by the Delaware River. This is the first of 7 posts covering this trip.
Tunkhannock Insects
Marc is so good at finding Preying Mantids. I did not know what the first one was. It was over an inch in size. Prompted by Rudi at Picpholio I went to bugguide.net and in craneflies I found one like it labeled Large Crane Flies (Tipulidae)
Tunkhannock 2
Our second visit to this preserve.
