Marc is so good at finding Preying Mantids. I did not know what the first one was. It was over an inch in size. Prompted by Rudi at Picpholio I went to bugguide.net and in craneflies I found one like it labeled Large Crane Flies (Tipulidae)

Thoroughly enjoyed these cool insects, Sherry, especially the preying mantises. They are so difficult to spot, I’m glad Eric has a knack for it.
Fascinating, a lot of mantids are not native. I think from China. Need to check it.
You are correct, some originated in China. “Yes, the Chinese mantis (Tenodera sinensis) is found in the United States. It was accidentally introduced to the US in 1896 by a nursery tender at Mt. Airy near Philadelphia.”

The first shot can be some cranefly.
I thought it might be a cranefly too but couldn’t find a picture like it. Today I checked bugguide.net and found one called Large Crane Flies (Tipulidae) that looks like it. Thanks.
