In the afternoon of the 12th we went into town.

We went for a walk around Lubben with our family on October 12, 2021. The Fall weather was lovely.

Today’s post is for Thursday Doors https://nofacilities.com/2021/11/04/st-scholastica-doors/. See the post before this for more pictures of this historic town.

“Senftenberg is a town in southern Brandenburg, Germany, capital of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district. is located in the southwest of the historic Lower Lusatia region at the border with Saxony. Its town centre is situated north of the river Black Elster and the artificial Senftenberger Lake, part of the Lusatian Lake District chain, approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Hoyerswerda, and 35 kilometres (22 mi) southwest of Cottbus.
Senftenberg was first mentioned in a 1279 deed issued by Henry III the Illustrious of Wettin, then margrave of Lusatia. With Lower Lusatia, the settlement was acquired by the Kingdom of Bohemia under Charles IV of Luxembourg in 1368. Elector Frederick II of Saxony acquired Senftenberg in 1448, whereafter the area as a border stronghold of the House of Wettin was separated from Bohemian Lusatia, until in 1635 all Lusatian territories fell to Saxony by the Peace of Prague. According to the 1815 Congress of Vienna, Lower Lusatia was annexed by Prussia and incorporated into the Province of Brandenburg.”

Lubbbenau is close to Lubben so we wen there a few times. Anytime we sat somewhere Oscar, our grandson, was on a device.

We all went to see Bescherbergwerk F60, a historic coal mining structure in Lusatia. It was a bit more than I bargained for, the climb was too much. It has a total length of 502 meters, 204 meters wide and the height of almost 80 meters. I kept slipping on the wet platforms and stairs as we climbed.

I enjoyed taking morning walks behind our rental apartment. By the river Spree the sign on the haystack was “Wer rettet die Kultulandschaft?” which means “Who saves the nature resort?”

Lots sof charmign houses and waterways in Lubbenau, Germany.
LĂĽbbenau is a town in the Upper Spree Forest-Lusatia District of Brandenburg, Germany. It is located in the bilingual German/Sorbian region of (Lower) Lusatia, on the river Spree, where this forms a large inland delta surrounded by woodland, called “Spree Forest”, about 82 km (51 mi) southeast of Berlin. The town is best known through the incorporated villages of Lehde/LÄ›dy and Leipe/Lipje, villages where there just exist anabranches of the Spree River instead of streets.
