You captured the essence of the Pine Barrens beautifully here, Sherry. That you mentioned in an above comment that it was “mysterious and spooky” is reflected in the photos. I really like all the flora photos here, especially the pussy toes, pitch pine and lichen.
I may have asked you this and forgotten, but have you read John McPhee’s The Pine Barrens? It’s quite a good book, and it’s nice to have your images to go with it.

Thanks Jet. Glad my photos managed to portray the mood.
What a lovely place for a hike! You’ve captured close-ups of these delicate flowers wonderfully.
Thank you. It is lovely this time of year. In the summer it get too hot.
I like the blooms and the lichen, and especially the woodland mystery paths.
The Pine Barrens feels mysterious and spooky to me. Not someplace I would like to be lost in. And it is easy to get lost there.
Like entering a book! Nice photos
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed them.

I haven’t read McPhee’s Pine Barrens yet. I will – thanks for the tip. I loved his Basin and Range and other books on Geology.
Interesting area
It is a unique habitat. 🙂
