Hawk a CP

Went to Central Park yesterday to checkout a new model of hearing aids to see how they work on bird calls. We were amused to see a young Red-tailed Hawk trying to catch squirrels at the feeders. No luck!

Hudson River Park

Hudson River Park at sunset. I was testing how much light and noise is created when using my my new 2x teleconverter for the Nikkor Z 70-200mm f /2.8 VR S lens on my Nikon Z7. This 2x teleconverter gives the lens a 100% boost (effectively giving me a 140-400mm f/5.6 – loosing ~2 stops of light). I think the results of these photos taken in low light after noise reduction in post are acceptable. Once a long time ago I tried a 2x teleconverter on an f/5.6 lens it lost so much light the images were too grainy to use.

Tao Doors

A wall of doors at the Tao restaurant at 92 Ninth Avenue at 16th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. For Thursday Doors.

Moody Jamaica Bay

On Januray 9th we went to Jamaica Bay very briefly. It was very cold and windy and I didn’t see many birds. I was feeling a bit moody and these images reflect that (click to view gallery).

23rd Street framed door

For Thursday Doors. it’s been a long time since I posted a door. This one on 23rd Street in the Flatiron District in New York City is nicely framed for the holidays.

Chinatown Lanterns

Chinatown has been hit hard by the pandemic. They are trying to get people to come. The cheery lanterns are inviting. We went there for dinner and ate in a cubicle outside. The food was good. A cold rain began to fall. Ordering a sizzling plater was a good idea because it kept the food hot. Next time I’ll bring a blanket and a thermal cup for the tea. Someone needs to invent a rechargeable plate warmer for outdoor dining. I couldn’t find one on Amazon to take with me for outdoor winter dining.
