After Point Lookout we took a drive along Jones Beach ands d stopped at Tobay.
We had fun watching the sanderlings feeding on the shoreline (littoral zone). I love the last photo.

On Thursday we went to Oyster Bay to Lookout Point by Nickerson Beach, Long Island, New York to look for Harlequins (subsequent post) and other winter ducks. The back lighting was atrocious.
On Saturday a brief visit to the cliffs. A nice closeup of an Eider Duck at the point with other ducks and gulls at a distance. On Sunday one stop was a walk through woods with poorly marked trails. Keeping up was hard for me and then Marc got lost. He stopped to take off his balaclava and we were gone when he looked up. Fortunately, Joe helped me find him and the three of us we want back to the cars.
On the second day we went to the Montauk Point, Napeague 4×4, Ditch Palins Beach, and Gardiner’s Bay. The next to last photograph is of the group disppearing down the trail. I could not keep up. This was the case on all the walks. A few we sopped at locations close to the cars. Those I managed. Montauk Historical Society tells about the lighthouse. Marc took some excellent photographs.
On the weekend starting on January 18, 2024 we want on a trip with the Littoral​ Society led by Don Riepe to Montauk. Long Island, New York. The weather was freezing. I arrived there with a cold which I am still recovering from. The cold (illness and temperature) dampened my enthusiasm so I didn’t take many photographs. Many of the photos in this post and the following are by my husband, Marc (signed Felix).
I loved the Montauk Manor – Montauk Hotel. Our room was full of nautical tchotchkes. I’ll spare you from the over 30 photos of them. When we arrived on Friday it was snowing a little. Our group went for a short trip to Montauk inlet by Montauk Lake.
