Calvert Vaux Park : NYC Parks (nycgovparks.org) is a park consisting mostly of ball fields by Coney Island Creek in Gravesend, Brooklyn. It has seme nice shorefront areas. This is one of 3 posts. Marc found the preying mantis in the wildflower area. The locust borer is a new one for me.

    The locust borer looks very special!! Beautiful pictures, I love especially the first one here, the inkling of autum 🙂

    That Locust Borer is impressive. I’ve never heard of such a thing. I wasn’t sure if it did its boring on locust-insects or locust-trees, but I just read that the larvae feed on the black locust tree. Interestingly, the adults feed on goldenrod pollen.

    The flower shots are beautiful but the praying mantis shot is my favourite, it’s superb 🙂

      It is well camouflaged and I enhance the background to bring it out a little or it would be even more invisible.
