On the day of my birthday Marc and I toured the area around Lubben. We stopped for a mosquito laden picnic in the woods. A highlight for me was being able to get some photographs of Cranes in a field and Red Kites following a tractor in a field.
I wanted a photograph of this lovely mansion with a tower. I was only able to photograph the tower. I was chased off and told no photographs. The owner actually drove out in his car to make us leave. I was not standing in his property.
Near the end of the excursion, I made Marc stop the car. I saw a mushroom by the side of the road that was the size of a football. Wish I had known it was edible, I would have picked it and its companion for dinner.
The next to last photo shows a windfarm in the distance. Germany has loads of wind turbines.

I love all of these images.
Sweet shots, Sherry. Those Oak saplings though… i had to rake tons of Oak leaves today! 😊
Thanks Tom
Great images of those kites!
Thanks Sue
You took some wonderful in-flight photos, Sherry. I never understand the “no photos” thing. If you’re on public property, I think (in the US) you can photograph what you can see. I’ve been asked to leave, a tobacco farm of all things, but I wasn’t on farm property. Still, the guy asking was quite large, and I already had the picture I wanted.
I like your photos o the farm animals. You have them all in a very pretty context.
According to a copyright lawyer I heard speak in NYC one can take pictures of anything while standing on public property. With people that is another matter, one needs to obtain a release.
Thanks Dan 🙂
… unfortunately you have to ask people for permission before you take a shot here in Germany and that’s one of the reasons I stopped street photography many years ago. There are some exceptions : no face, a crowd of people, … but it’s too tricky. if you are on public ground you can shoot… but no police, military or copyrighted buildings or monuments. A complete desaster in my opinion. Hopefully these unfriendly people haven’t spoiled your birthday. Happy birthday. Stay safe and healthy, Sherry!
Good to know. Here in a United States, it is permissible to photograph a house from the street. I was standing on public ground. I managed to get one good shot anyway. Recently while standing on the road, I was photographing a tree on private property in NYC. The doorman rushed out and said no pictures. I told him to look up the law. What I was doing is not illegal. Publishing photographs of people isn’t allowed without a release. I had a great birthday. 🙂
What you did get were some good birds, buildings, backlit leaves, animals
Thanks Derick. It was a nice way to spend my birthday.
Love your red kite shots Sherry!
Thanks Denzil. It was a treat to see them so close.
