Robin AB Friday

Steps I used to create the after version in Photoshop:

  1. Black and White adjustment layer chose Infrared
  2. Warm photo filter 5%
  3. Hue/saturation adjustment layer Saturation +33
  4. Duplicate robin and mask the bird
  5. Red photo filter 25%
  6. Copy and flatten the layers for use in on!
  7. In on1 Effects (PS add-on) chose “Cans on Shelf” and save back to PS
  8. Underwater Photo filter 56% applied to the on1 layer.

Barn – One Photo Focus

I edited Cee Neuner’s photo of a barn donated for the April One Photo Focus challenge. After some Lightroom tweaks I brought it into Photoshop. I used spot healing, content aware fill, and cloning to remove the modern electrical wires. Then I used on1 to add a subtle antiqued look. After that I added adjustment layers in Photoshop; such as, color inversions, overlays, brightening and darkening, colored gradient, and grayscale. I converted a copy of the image layer to outlines and inverted it which created white outlines on the flowers to give it a bit of extra punch. I changed the color of the roof and brushed in a patina, added some early morning mist, and my final added flourish is the weathervane (open source).

Magnolias

I photographed these magnolias in Central Park March 23, 2016. I like to be careful about what flower photographs I display. I hope these images are unusual or unique in some way because there are so many flower photographs out there.

After editing

I wanted to bring out the magnolia flowers and use colors in the background that were more complimentary and would look better on my wall. The composition is very important too.

The white Star Magnolias needed a bit of punch achieved in Lightroom and on1.

Shakespearean Theater 1 Photo Focus

I used the photo by Nancy Merill of Adams Memorial Shakespearean Theater donated and created for this for the March One Photo Focus (AB Friday) challenge. I use many multiple layers in Photoshop; such as color inversions and overlays, brightening and darkening, etc. until it had the look I was after.

Mural with Turtles – ABFriday

To create my impression of a day in Chinatown I started with a mural at Second Avenue and 1st Street, East Village, NYC in Photoshop. I then imported turtles taken at the Chinese Market under the Manhattan Bridge at East Broadway. I used a blend mode “divide” opacity 65% duplicated the layer and used a blend mode “subtract” opacity 20%. I duplicated those two layers and flipped them and placed part on the left wall. The result is a ballerina floating among cloud like turtles.

Ship for One Photo Focus Feb 2016

I edited Stacie’s ship in Lightroom, Photoshop and on1 for the One Photo Focus post. The ship was closely cropped so I added an image of my own of showing London Bridge and a barge in the Thames, London.

Boat for One Photo Focus January

Laura Macky’s photo is lovely as is. For this challenge I wanted to enhance the mood created by the old boat and bring that into the background. Here’s Photoshop recipe:

  1. Original image with some slight adjustment in Lightroom
  2. Curve adjustment layer: negative RGB, opacity 30%
  3. Grunge layer applied in on1 to a copy of original, blend mode: difference
  4. My cloud image. Blende mode: Hard Light, opacity 70%
  5. B&W adjustment layer default, opacity 70%
  6. Copy of original layer masked to show the boat, opacity 80%
  7. Smoke brushed, blend mode: Soft Light, opacity 89%

My version has an old postcard look and is also somewhat ominous.

White Flower for One Photo Focus

One Photo Focus December (Visual Venturing)

Using Julie Powel’s photo. I did a few adjustments in Lightroom; then in Photoshop I created duplicate layers and added directional blurs and masked out some parts. I enhanced the edges using filter – stylize – find edges. I also used adjustment layers. For December One Photo Focus.
