The Tyler Rood Trail is in in Upper Township in southern New Jersey close to Cape May. It has lovely meadows with butterflies and flowers and a small family burial ground. I recently read “The Pine Barrens” by John McPhee. It covers the culture of the Pineys and much more.

An intriguing range of pictures – especially the burial ground
I love finding things like that. I recently read a lovely book: “The Pine Barrens” by John McPhee. It covers the culture of the Pineys.
Another blogger posted an image of the Zabulon recently, and it brought to mind the explorer Zebulon Pike. I asked about the name, and got this great snippet of information in response:
“It looks like Zabulon may be a variant of Zebulon, who was the last of six sons of Jacob and Leah (Jacob’s tenth son) in the Old Testament. Some of the versions of the French Bible show his name listed as “Zabulon.” The fact that this species of butterfly was first described by a French naturalist Jean Baptiste Boisduval may be the reason why a slight variant of the name was used.”
How interesting. Thanks for sharing that.
