Lahaina Maui

We enjoyed the old buildings and history in Lahaina on our second day in Maui. See Flag of Hawaii – Wikipedia. We met Marc’s cousin Margaret and her mate there for lunch. Most of the shops along Front Street are tacky.

Aloha Sherry, so very wonderful to enjoy the beauty and history of Maui here today–big skies, big banyans, vast sea. Mahalo for this visit to paradise. And how very nice for you to have had Aloha Time…thanks for sharing it.

I laughed at the goat bearing the Route 66 medallion on its back.

I’ve been to Kauaʻi, but if I made it back to Hawaii I’d like to visit Maui, particularly to visit poet W.S. Merwin’s place there. Merwin was more than a poet. The NYT’s obituary included this:

“In later years Mr. Merwin was equally known for his work as a conservationist — in particular for his painstaking restoration of depleted flora, including hundreds of species of palm, on the remote former pineapple plantation in Hawaii where he made his home. He had lived there, in blissful near-solitude, since the 1970s, refusing to answer the telephone.”
