The sparrows were coming and going like mad and splashing away. Making a composite of 5 images reproduces the feeling. I grayed out the background and added a soft tree to it to balance the composition.

Composite of numbers 51 to 55 in Photoshop. NIKON D610, f-stop 6.3, exposure time 1/200sec., ISO 150·to 100, focal length 400mm, and max aperture 5.

Brown Thrasher with Berry, Central Park 10/5/2014 Version 2

A happy Thrasher who’s found a ripe berry. He flew to the ground with it a shook the berry by the stem. Odd! Some light outlining was all it needed, along with some color enhancement in Lightroom and Photoshop.

Created in Photoshop. NIKON D610, f-stop 1/5.6, exposure time 1/320 sec., ISO·1600, focal length 400 mm, and max aperture 5.

I brushed in some cob webs and smoke for a spooky effect in Photoshop. I also kept the colors somber and the branches dark. This Eastern Wood Peewee is eating a bug after all!

Composite created in Photoshop. 20140923_Central-Pk_75.jpg used for the background. NIKON D610, f-stop 5.6, exposure time 1/200 sec., ISO 320, focal length 250mm, and max aperture 5.

Hummers can look fierce. This female had just chased off its rivals. I added a wispy gray sky with clouds that show motion to enhance the mood.

When I shot this Hermit Thrush I knew I wanted to make it have an Asian look – like a watercolor on textured paper. Corel Painter is the perfect medium to make the possible. There are multiple layers involved.

Created with Photoshop and Corel Painter 10/6/2014. NIKON D7000, f-stop 6.3, exposure time 1/640 sec., ISO 100, focal length 600mm, and max aperture 5.

I created this in honor of Joe Two Trees, the last Algonquin, who lived in Pelham Bay Park c. 1850. The mist I added represents his spirit and the Gull his wandering spirit.

Northern Cardinal in Winter, Central Park 12/29/2011

I created this last winter from an older image of a Cardinal photographed in the Park. The watercolor was brushed in using a Wacom Tablet and Corel Painter. Part of the photo of the bird, especially the eyes, is unaltered.
