A painterly effect brushed with brushes with a Wacom Tablet in in Corel Painter takes an ordinary Black-crowned Nigh Heron in a dark corner of Central Park’s Lake and turns it into art.

Created in Photoshop and Corel Painter. NIKON D600, f-stop 5.6, exposure time 1/100 sec., ISO·320, focal length 200mm, and max aperture 4.8.

I love the misty colors, and the painterly effect. I believe the bird is asleep, with one foot drawn up, but somehow, that particular pose makes the bird figure look a bit odd, I think.

It is a typical heron pose. If it had been on two legs I think the image might look too static and the bird would have less movement or attitiude. You are making me think about it and I appreciate that. I will try out some different poses when I get a chance. This is great. I am getting a lot of very good feedback.

I didn’t really like this one. It looked too cloudy and misty..Kind of faded.

To me this is the best of the lot. Like a painting, it has emotional appeal, and is very beautiful.

This picture is very artistic, and I love it. It captures the essence of the bird in a mystical -kind of setting.
