Jamaica Bay in March

Landscapes of Jamaica Bay. The first image shows Snow Geese and Brant in flight. I wonder what the plant is. I liked the red color on the leaves.

I especially like the first photo — so much movement in both the birds and the trees. I think the plant in the second photo is the Common Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis). It barely creeps into eastern Texas, but it’s quite common in your area, and a very interesting plant. The basal leaves here probably are reddish because of cold weather, but wildflower.org notes that its stem can be 2-6′ tall (!) and its yellow, night-opening flowers are quite fragrant.

Such amazing images in Jamaica. I saw these birds high on these trees and they so photogenic. Anita

Thanks for taking us to Jamaica Bay, Sherry. Your photos really capture the magic of the bay–big sky, cloud, colors and plants. That first photo is especially engaging, so serene.

Thanks Jet. We are lucky to have this sanctuary so close to the city.

All your photos make me want to be there in Jamaica Bay! I particularly like the first photo with the swaying, or swayed (?) trees!
