I especially like the first photo — so much movement in both the birds and the trees. I think the plant in the second photo is the Common Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis). It barely creeps into eastern Texas, but it’s quite common in your area, and a very interesting plant. The basal leaves here probably are reddish because of cold weather, but wildflower.org notes that its stem can be 2-6′ tall (!) and its yellow, night-opening flowers are quite fragrant.
