Engine 14

Engine Company 14 is a fine old firehouse on E 18th Street in the East Village area of Manhattan. The ornate Beaux Arts design firehouse was erected in 1895. It was designed by architect Napoleon LeBrun, who was known for his decoratively designed fire stations. This style is typical of the earliest New York City firehouses. Engine Co. 14 has been recognized as a historic landmark.

Wonderful to see this cheerful and elegant fire station, Sherry. We don’t see scenes like this too much anymore, what a pleasure. Thanks for your great photos.

Thanks Jet. I take time to straighten it and enhance them a little. I will try to photograph some more of them.

This is such a beautiful firehouse, Sherry. I have a firehouse featured today, and I love the contrast between a broad, somewhat sprawling three-bay building in Hartford, and a delightfully colorful single-bay tucked tight in between other buildings. You did well to get the entire building in the frame. I’m glad you did, the frieze and the brackets are amazing.

Thanks Dan. I’d like to go around and collect all the firehouses like this one. I’ll put it on my to do list.
