Nickerson Terns

We went to Nickerson Beach on a one of the barrier Islands of Long Island, New York last week to see the nesting shore birds. This post is of the terns and their chicks. More to follow…

    I’ve never seen tern chicks, and these are adorable. What a great series of photos, and what an opportunity!

      They have areas roped off for nesting. Some beach goers object because they do not want to share the beach with the birds.

        Ah, people. There are nesting sites roped off in the same way farther down the coast, including some for Skimmers.

    Terns are such elegant birds to see and they are great flyers too.
