Early June butterflies in Ward Pound Ridge Reservation (westchestergov.com) seen during a trip led by Rick Cech (author of books on the subject) along with several other experts as part of a The Linnaean Society of New York (linnaeannewyork.org) trip. We had a great time looking for insects and other wildlife. I had help identifying some of these.
Lovely photos. I quite like butterflies but I can’t abide caterpillars – especially the big green pussy ones….brrrrr
It is strange that such beauty comes from wormy caterpillars. 🙂

wow this series of butterfly photos is astounding, Sherry. The array of species, the details and the ability to capture these tiny little fluttering beauties. Identification is also impressive. You were with some true butterfly enthusiasts. My four favorite photos were #8 Hoary Edge for the clarity of the proboscis; #9 Red-spotted purple for the beauty of the creature and color contrasts; #11 two summer azures with the one flying and the other paused; #16 Little Wood Satyr for the brilliance of the image. #2 is also lovely with the shadow and the antennae. Much enjoyed, my friend.
I had help from expert lepidopterists. My macro lens does a nice job when I was able to catch one :-). I am so glad you liked these. There is always so much to learn. I am trying to learn a few grasses this summer.
