Sweetbriar Nature Center

After visiting the Bayard Cutting Arboretum we drove across Long Island to the charming little Sweetbriar Nature Center (sweetbriarnc.org).

    All so beautiful and yes, that tree is fascinating! It kind of looked to me like there was some 4 legged animal at the base of the tree such as a large dog (minus tail) orperhaps a wildcat…

      Interesting observation. I don’t see a critter in the tree trunk, but many others might.

    I wonder if the large tree was split by lightning at some time in the past. It’s a fascinating specimen.

      Maybe it was struck by lightning. Looks like a very old tree.
