Doodletown

A trip with the Linnaean Society of NY to Doodletown, near Bear Mountain, Rockland, New York. Fascinating place: Doodletown, New York – Wikipedia

I have this book on the houses Doodletown: Hiking through history in a vanished hamlet on the Hudson by Elizabeth Stalter – 1996-06-07 (biblio.com)

My first thought was of our Texas Doodlebugs! What an interesting history. I especially enjoyed the photo of the new growth coming up inside the hollowed trunk.

I like that hollow log ‘”planter” too there is a row of them. I saw a bug like the Doodlebug in Virginia. Weird insect.

Love particularly the photo with an intense yellow flower! Any comment from anywhere about Doodletown’s name?

When I saw the post title I expected street art and graffiti 🙂 Reading the info it sounds like a very interesting place, it certainly looks very green and leafy and I love the little hummingbird.

It is an immensely popular spot for Spring Warblers and nesting Blue-Winged Warblers. Great for hiking too.
