A couple of old houses
The late 18 c. or early 19th 121 Charles Street (link: brick underground.com) has a fascinating history. GVHS also has an excellent write-up on 121 Charles Street.
Ac cross the street from 121 is a building with a huge roof garden. I love how it spills over the walls.
132 Charles Street was built in the 1899. Both these old houses have wooden sidings, as do a only a few others in Greenwich Village.

Great doors. Greenwich Village huh, I never would have guessed. I love the dark brown door against the yellow siding.
Ther are more odd little houses hidden away here.
The roses growing up the side of the one house and the garden spilling over are beautiful. My favorite though is the yellow house (132) with the dark wood door and the lion door-knocker. Lovely!
Thanks. I love these little houses. the history of 121 Charles Street. is fascinating.
Wow this pretty is cool. Definitely not the type of architecture one tends to think of when imagining New York.
Thanks Norm. Hope you find time to quick read the history of 121 Charles Street.
This is really beautiful to see. Is this actually in Greenwich Village, as in in New York City?
Yes, in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. There was talk of tearing it down and building a high rise. I hope that doesn’t happen. I hope you check out the links above for the history.
I will check on them, Sherry – thanks for sharing this very interesting (little known, to me anyway!) history! I also certainly hope there is no future plan to demolish this in order to build a high rise.
So fascinating- what a story behind this (and what a story about Margaret Wise Brown!!) Thank you, Sherry, for showing so many views of how beautifully cared for this property is and for including the links!
Glad you enjoyed it.
There are so so many old neighbourhood homes in this area, especially just a few minutes away in Hopewell Township. I never thought to photograph them. Do you think it would be weird if I walked around each day and explored a new street? I think it would make an interesting series but worry about being perceived as creepy.
People take pictures in the streets all the time here. I wonder if they would think you were a tourist. Ah! but the tourists are all gone at the moment. I would give it a whirl and see if you get any comments 🙂
Yeah. No tourist. Small towns. Just a lone man walking around with a camera.
Lovely buildings well photographed
Thanks Derrick. I love the history of 121 Charles St.
