I found it very amusing that this Bittern, who stopped by The Ramble sat stiffly out in the open without moving all day. “Is it a plastic bird glued to a branch?” “No, it is real,” I was told. Obviousy, it was easy to photograph even though it was high up in the tree high up. I used a Nikon D750 with a Sigma 120-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS Contemporary.

That’s one of the reasons I like walking in nature. It’s so surprising!
Super! The ones here skulk in the reeds and are rarely seen
That’s the usual here too. Never know what you’ll see next in the park.
A great photo, I hope he enjoyed the sunshine 🙂
Thanks Eunice
Good question
Makes one wonder what he was looking at! 🙂
Pie in the sky.
How cool was that!
Definitely 😎
Knowing bittern behavior, and their skulking, skittish ways, I find this a most unusual and endearing story, Sherry. He or she has that stance they take when they are trying to blend in and not be seen. So I can only think, looking at the wintry tree and the sun this beauty is bathed in, is that he’s letting the sun soak in deep for warmth. I know I would. Your photo is delightful. Really fun post, and amusing, as you say.
There were no reeds to hide in, though it looked like it thought there were. 🤣
