Ice on the Hudson

Freezing temperatures led to the Hudson River icing over. It is even thicker now and an ice breaker was sent to clear a path. Marc and I photographed it on January 28.

wonderful photos. Meanwhile where I live we have day after day of temps above 30.c, with bushfires raging.

My sister notices smoke from fires near Sydney. Weather is more extreme these days.

I love these photos, Sherry. I was out trying to get some photos of the Connecticut River. It’s been a while since it has frozen over this solid. The Hudson is a lot of water to freeze.

Thanks Dan. In 1919 and 1947 the Hudson was frozen solid. This time it was only frozen at the edges.

A fine tessellated record albeit with gaps

I just read that ferry service has been suspended on the both the East and Hudson rivers because of the ice. Do they freeze often, or only occasionally, or partially?

2004 was the last time the Hudson River had a lot of ice. In 1934 it was frozen solid. This much ice is very rare.
