Harriman State Park straddles Rockland and Orange Counties in New York State. We attempted to do most of the 7 lakes drive starting at the north end near Bear Mountain to the south end near Ramapo. Some roads where closed. It was a lovely drive.
Harriman State Park
I went to a Y camp just inside that park. It was just plain beautiful. To me it felt a long way from home on Long Island, but now it’s so very close to the city. It was an old-fashioned camp with unheated and unelectrified cabins and actual latrines we nine-year-old were expected to keep sanitary. Not fun, but absolutely unforgettable, including waking up to the bugle call at dawn. You sure are enjoying your getaways, Sherry, even when they’re smack in the middle of the city.
You remind me of my similar camping experiences when young. 🙂
