It isn’t often I get a life bird in such an easy way. This Evening Grosbeak was hanging out on May 11 by the Evodia bird feeders in Central Park, along with a hoard of fellow bird watchers. My life list count for the US is 351 and 919 world wide. It’s a modest list because I do not travel much. I’ll will not be seeing all 10,425 some odd bird species in the world.

Forget-me-not (Myosotis), Central Park 5/8/2019 Magnolia Warbler (Setophaga magnolia), Central Park 5/8/2019 Swainson’s Thrush (Catharus ustulatus), Central Park 5/8/2019 Rose-breasted Grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus), Central Park 5/8/2019 Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus), Central Park 5/8/2019
A good set

Congratulations on your lifer. I use a checklist spreadsheet from ABA http://listing.aba.org/aba-checklist/ that I modified to keep a tally, and put in dates and locations of my first sightings.

Gosh, they are beautiful! Maybe I can profit by your knowledge of birds and start identifying them too. 🙂

All it takes is a field guide (you can download one like iBird or Sibley), a pair of binoculars and practice. There are lots of organizations that lead walks and they don’t mind newbies. Where are you located? It is lots of fun.
