I went to Brooklyn to visit Grace Court and Grace Court Alley. Most of these are good for
- Norm’s Thursday Doors.
- Forgotten NY has great information plus maps
There a few gas lights too. Reminded me of London in the 50s when a lamplighter used come light the lamp outside my window every night.

<3 Lovely!!
Thanks
Vary amazing images. I, think my favourite is the last one, indeed
Thanks for the comment. Glad you like ’em.
Thanks Cybele. Glad you dropped by. I am on pause right now. I’ll explain soon.
More of your beautiful doors- and laneways!
I enjoyed these Grace Court Alley photos — such a lovely corner of Brooklyn. I like that flower box with the trailing vines. Wonderful photos, Sherry.
Thanks Jet. It was well worth the trip.
Oh, so quaint and filled with character and stories I’m sure. Lovely photography! =)
Thank’s for the compliment Brenda. I’d love to know more history.
These are wonderful photos and beautiful doors. I like the details you captured in the brick work, as well as the accents. I love the picture with the lamp – that’s so classic looking. The image looking down the alley to the (park?) trees is my favorite. Very nice composition!
Thanks for sharing with Thursday Doors!
Thank you for your glowing comments. Glad you enjoyed my work.
🙂
Beautiful photos. Definitely worth the trip to Brooklyn.
It is indeed. I want to seek out more streets like that.
Looks a great place to linger
It is, and very pretty.
Excellent!
Beautiful. Your lamplighter story to me feels romantic and like early 20th century!
Gas lamps are very Victorian. Unfortunately, the gas lamps outside my window at Basset Road were replaced with orange street lights that made the room a ghastly color. Those are gone now too.
The ’50s lamplighter takes me back. I started work at Lloyd’s in Leadenhall Street in 1960. A lamplighter visited the market every day
I read there are only 5 lamplighters left https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2848038/The-magical-job-Britain-Enchanting-story-gas-street-lights-five-men-burning-just-did-Dickens-day.html
Thanks very much for this absolutely fascinating link, Sherry
I love the article too.
