We drove up to Gloucester, Massachusetts for a Cape Ann whale watching and nature trip with members of the Littoral Society led by Don Riepe. It was a lovely trip. Marc’s photograph of a gas station is reminiscent of a Hopper painting. The ambience for breakfast at the Atlantis Hotel is lovely not so much the food. The egg was underdone and the sauce was runny in Marc’s eggs Benedict. 6 more posts about this trip to come.

I hope the food improved as you continued.
The lobster was good. Can’t go too wrong with a boiled lobster. The rest of the meals were not so good. Burnt felafel was returned by me. I find that tourist places don’t seem to care about quality. Most tourists are only there once so there is no need to keep up a high standard. One place served me a tiny lobster with twice the amount of French-fried potatoes. The potatoes went into the garbage. That place also forgot Marc’s order. And the music was so loud I could not hear the person sitting next to me. A good way to make people hurry up and eat so they can escape.
Dreadful
Beautiful pictures!
Thank you so much.
I was tickled to see the Carolina sea lavender. It’s native here, too. I had meant to go looking for it this summer, but between hurricane Beryl and ongoing heat — and the closure of the spots where I’ve found it, post hurricane — I’d forgotten about it. I just put finding sea lavender on my to-do list!
It was a pleasure to see the pop of color amongst the rocks. Hope you find some to enjoy.
Nice pics! I believe that in the center of the first photo, in the background, one can barely see the well-known Portugues Church with its pretty light blue bell-like domes.
The gas station…yes….so Hopper-esque!!!..
Atlantis Avenue – very well known to us and quite close to where we are there. When there 2 years ago, would have stayed at Atlantis Inn or one of the places on the road there but a dog was not a welcome guest! Did you swim at Good Harbor Beach? Perhaps the pool was preferred?
Not much time for swimming. There was a tiny pool at the motel. I did not use it because it was full of kids. More to come 🙂
