We drove to Floyd Bennett field for me to have a practice session driving the car on the almost empty old runways. We had a picnic lunch by the community gardens there.

An excellent reason for getting out, with some lovely results.

Thanks Anne. Only a half dozen pics that trip.

I smiled at the reason for your trip. It reminded me of the days when my dad would take me out to the big (and empty) shopping mall parking lot to teach me to drive on ice.

It is taking me longer this time to get used to driving. I am not as young and carefree as I used to be. I need to be more like Toady in Toad Hall, but not too reckless.

Looks like a wonderful outing, Sherry. It must be so exciting to get out of N.Y. at the moment. Sort of bringing you back to nature and a sense of normalcy.
I’m almost betting you and your husband will be out in the country many times over coming weeks as you try to get through this horrible atmosphere in the city.

Floyd Bennett is in Brooklyn, NYC. It feels like being out of the city. It is good to be able to drive out. Public transportation is risky because many people think it is fine not to wear a mask.

Well, its certainly a lovely area. I’m so pleased you’ve now bought a car anyway. I really miss having one at the moment in particular. We’re back in Lockdown and tight restrictions after an outbreak in my suburb (together with 1 1/2 dozen other inner Melbourne suburbs.

I am only using the car locally at the moment. No interstate travel. One of the reasons I bought it is to be able to see nature safely. I will also use it for house hunting a little way upstate. I heard about Melbourne in the news. Take care my friend.

Very funny. Both hands were on the wheel. I saw my first meadowlark there many years ago. Unfortunately, Gateway NP is poorly managed these days and many species of wildlife are gone. They focus on human recreation rather than wildlife preservation.
