In 1999 I created a presentation for TAMS on digital images back in 1999. I had so much fun with it. I created masks of myself as Raster Sherry and Vicky Vector.
- Raster and Vector:
- Digital images are either Raster or Vector.
- Vector to raster OK, but to make vector from raster RtV software is needed.
- File Types: Computer graphics come in a variety of files types:
- Raster File types: *.BMP, *.tiff, *.GIF, and *.JPEG to name a few.
- Vector file types: i.e., *.dxf, *.cdr, *.emf, *.svg and more
- Resolution effects output and file size and is measured in dpi, ppi and lpi.
- Computer monitors have their resolution and color settings (color depth).
- 1366×768 screen resolution with 24-bit color depth is now common.
- The output may be very different from the image seen on the computer.
- Scaling and resampling interpolation all effect images.
- 35 mm photo resolution is 200 dpi
- Computer monitors have their resolution and color settings (color depth).
- Color models include HSB, RGB and CMYK
- Color matching (for color depth see above).
- How different devices “see” color.
- Scanning and its effect on images.
- How a scanner scans.
- Histogram for B&W points, brightness and contrast.
- Moiré effect when scanning magazines (gaussian blur and unsharp mask).
- Printing: The quality of an image is affected by all the above.
- Types of Black and white are: laser, inkjet, and dot matrix.
- Inkjet or deskjet are color or grayscale.
- Dye sublimation prints are photorealistic
- Printing Press highest quality.
Digital Images slf is a PDF of the presentation updated today.
The presentation (PDF) basically explained the difference between raster, vector and file types. No instructions were given. The audience asked questions. Everyone laughed at me in the masks. If you are not interested in what makes digital images the presentation will mean nothing.

It was a simple illustration created using an auto tool with Corel Draw to illustrate the text (PDF link).

It may be easy for you Sherry, but I am horrible with those kind of instructions:)

Pretty cool! The Vector image result looks like a pencil drawing!
