NYBG Magnolias

Among the first trees to bloom in New York in late March to Early April are the Magnolias. Star Magnolias first. One bud was growing out of the bottom of the tree trunk.

That bud emerging directly from the trunk is amazing. I’ve never seen such, except in the redbud trees that are designed to function that way.
