Nickerson and Jones

After Nickerson Beach we drove to Jones Beach. I only saw one Piping plover at Nickerson. And no Skimmer chicks yet.

It isn’t often you see a piping that isn’t banded – seems like the ones I’ve spotted have at least 4 bands each.

They must have missed that one. It was the only one I saw there that day.

East coast beaches are so different from those here. What is a ‘salt shack’? Is that simply a business name? And looking out toward the water in that same photo, is that a collection of volleyball nets in the distance? I can’t quite figure out what I’m seeing.

Salt Shak is the name of an establishment that sells food, beer, and entertainment. Yes, loads of volleyball nets are out in the baking sun. No one wanted to use them that day. Way too hot!

Really enjoyed this visit to Nickerson and Jones beaches, Sherry. Your artful photos are lovely with the skimmers and terns, the beach rose and close-up lady beetle. Lovely singing song sparrow. But my favorite was the shadows of the beach fence on the sand.
