Bedford Street Doors

Bedford Street is in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, NYC. The white door led to the back of the building. Unfortunately, Chumley’s is gone now. I went there many times long ago.

The plain door on W 13 Street has a lovely ceramic floral wreath on it.

These wonderful photos of the Bedford Street Doors intrigued me, Sherry, so I went to the Chumley’s link and was instantly enchanted. Chumley’s sounds like a hoppin’ and wonderful establishment with all sorts of lively artists. And I love that the term “86ed” originated here, and that you gave us the 86-door photo, too. To think that Edna St. Vincent Millay occasionally tended bar there is astounding. Such a colorful history, what a shame it was shuttered.

Wow! These are wonderful doors, Sherry. I like them all, but my favorite are the doors at J. Cobbel & Co.

The white door brought barns to mind; I did wonder why they hadn’t painted it a less obtrusive color. On the other hand, if giving directions, it certainly provides a recognizable landmark.
