On October 9th, 2021, we went to Lübben, Germany and stayed until October 22nd 2021 to visit our son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. Lübben (Spreewald) is a town of 14,000 people, capital of the Dahme-Spreewald district in the Lower Lusatia region of Brandenburg, Germany.
We flew with Lufthansa. Travel was fraught with difficulties. We needed to register with the German authorities, but I could not because Lufthansa had made my name into one-word Sherrylynn instead of Sherry. Lufthansa said they could not change it. This caused me a great deal of difficulty registering with the German health authority because I didn’t have a matching name. The German health authority notice says that we could end this quarantine if we test negative within a certain period. In the English language to end something means you must have begun it. Guessing they may have used Google translate. This caused another anxious day or two trying to figure this one out. We didn’t need to quarantine, we are triple vaccinated. Lufthansa kept changing the flight times and gates. One of the papers said departure was on the 21st of October and another one on the 22nd. Apparently the 21 was the year. It was not clear to me; consequently, I under booked by one day for both the car rental and the hotel and had to correct that while in Germany. I’ll cover Corvid test issues in future posts.
We rented a nice little ground floor apartment at Adebarsoase Adebars Oasis – Accommodation: Oasis 1 (adebarsoase.de). The garden in the back leads to fields and the river Hauptspree. There was mist and frost there on the first morning.

I always love German posts – it is one of our favourite places. On our last trip overseas in May 2019 we stayed for 6 nights in Mainz along the Rhine. I’ve learnt German at evening classes for the past 10 years so always love the chance to practice. So glad you managed to negotiate all the new travel requirements – it must have been very stressful but looks like you had a wonderful trip in the end 🙂

I know more French than German. I’d like to see West Germany someday. Only the travel part was stressful. The rest was lovely.

It must have been well worth it too to see you family. We’ve been to Berlin a couple of times too and did a day trip to Leipzig from there. Have actually done quite a few trips to Germany over the years. The old east definitely has different feel than the west. I also studied French for quite a few years at school then some at uni – I actually enjoy both French and German which many people find unusual!

That is cool. I would like to visit some other wildlife areas abroad. I am interested in nature, so I don’t focus on visiting urban places. My next trip will involve more nature. I will wait another year or so.

Yes certainly the big cities can be very crowded. There are some beautiful nature areas in Germany – woods, rivers, forests and mountains etc. Hopefully travel will be a little easier in a year or so fingers crossed.

Traveling in times of Covid is not easy…. Great pictures. I hope the problems didn’t disturb your visite to your son and dauhgter-in-law.

The problems are minor but time consuming. The usual is a day or two for travel preparations. This one took 6 days of prep. All forgotten during the visit. We had a wonderful time with our family.

Sorry to hear about the travel complications, but I imagine, with increased scrutiny in international travel, you might be one of many to get bookings to go awry.
In Australia, we write the date 26/10/21, but when blogging, I type 26th October 2021 to cover all those international variations. But when you just have a small block (e.g. DD/MM/YY or MM/DD/YY) it can be frustrating.

The frost and mist add a little mystery to the photos. I also had difficulties with the newregistration process when I travelled to Italy and Greece this month. Plus the fact that it is difficult to see how efficient they are.

Your photos of Lubben are exquisite, Sherry. Travel right now is fraught with setbacks, everything is so complicated. But I’m glad you were able to visit your son and family, and get there and home safely. Really enjoyed seeing the stork nest, the beautiful rural images, and look forward to seeing more from your Germany adventure.
