Hempstead Lake and LI Shore

On Saturday April 17th we went on a birding trip with the Linnaean Society of NY to Hempstead Lake SP, Point Lookout and Nickerson Beach in Nassau County, Long Island. It was a lovely group of people and a lovely day. I enjoyed the new Spring growth. It wasn’t a good bird shooting day for me. A highlight was a black-capped Chickadee collecting nesting material a couple of feet away from me. Another was the Harlequins.

Until you mentioned the Titmice plucking hair, I’d forgotten about a certain bluejay that was given to pulling the fur from a friend’s cat! You have some fine photos here. The red maple photo is my favorite, just because of the luminescence. But that chickadee! What an absolutely charming set of photos.

Wonderful use of bokeh in the first few and light and shadow in the Chickadees.

Beautiful, Sherry! Saturday was a beautiful day – we were down at Maryam’s in LIC. I went out walking along the waterfront with Hassan and Maryam and was blown away by the beautiful gardens, parks, and sitting areas they have available. Weather in the city is always several weeks ahead of us, so it will be a while before we see so many beautiful tulips. I loved your Chickadee collecting nesting materials. It never ceases to amaze us at some of the stuff we find in abandoned nests when we are raking leaves in the Fall!! Love to Marc, Cathy

Thanks Cathy. I love the Brooklyn waterfront. It’s been a while since I went to LIC waterfront. I have some great photos from there.

A lovely walk around the lake and beach with you this morning. Your chickadee photos are terrific! I’m watching them here snatch nesting material from the nesting balls I have hanging outside. They certainly are not shy when it comes to this!

I’ve seen Tufted Titmice pluck hair from living animals. This is a fun time of the year. Thanks for dropping by.
