Hawk a CP

Went to Central Park yesterday to checkout a new model of hearing aids to see how they work on bird calls. We were amused to see a young Red-tailed Hawk trying to catch squirrels at the feeders. No luck!

Luckily for the squirrel, bad luck for the hawk. And all that in Central Park!

I once saw a young hawk chasing a squirrel around a tree on foot. The squirrel won of course. Lots of young hawks don’t survive their first year. It takes a lot of skill to catch prey. Central Park is a mecca for birds. In the spring warblers will be stopping there on their way north.

Beautiful photographs, especially the first one. It isn’t easy catching birds in flight as clearly as you have.

Great images! Did the hearing aids come up to hopes?

They aren’t a huge improvement over my old ones for birds. They seem to work better in the street and on the bus for hearing speech. Thee new technology is amazing. My 3 year old ones are Oticon Opn and the new ones are Oticon More. Both are so much better than old style hearing aids which just cranked up the volume. These are highly computerized and work with Bluetoeth too.

I threw that one in to show what the hawk was aiming to eat. The squirrels knew they were dealing with an armature and kept coming back out near the hawk. I hope he got a meal eventually. My favorite is the first one 🙂

Did you get to see the Snowy Owl that showed up in Central Park? It was big news even here in Texas.

I heard about the snowy owl but I don’t like crowding rare birds or crowds so did not go there.

Beautiful, the first shot is amazing! How do you like the Z7?

Thanks. Love the Z7 with the new 70-200 mm f2.8 S lens. However, I had trouble with it in the extreme below zero cold. It kept trying to overexpose and I had to toss out quite a few images. I will ask Nikon about that. More testing is in order.

It seems some cameras like the cold more than others, like people. 🥶
