Snow in Greenwich Village

Some pictures I made during the snow storm. New York City had 10.5 inches. Note the snow cushions. Outdoor dining is not on.

The subject matter is different, but the tones of your third photo made me think immediately of Edward Steichen’s famous photo of the Flatiron building. It’s just lovely. (Well, both are, but I meant your photo!) I’ve tried for years to write about a similar snowy Christmas in Manhattan, and haven’t been able to fit things together properly. Maybe your photos will give me a good nudge this year.

Thank you. I think the colors suite a Manhattan snow – dark and mysterious. I tried black and white but that didn’t impart the mood I was after. I love that Steichen photo of the flatiron. I hope you do write about that Christmas.

As you have shown, the best thing about snow is the photo opportunity. I agree about outdoor dining

    Love that last shot, Sherry,
(I saw on the International news tonight about the depth of your snow – hope you get a break before it gets any deeper).

This is a real winter…. maybe also a white Christmass… but not for us here in Belgium. Enjoy the snow 😉

The snow has been shoveled away in the city. I plan a day trip upstate to see if I can make some more pictures.
