Central Park at Last

My first trip to Central Park this Spring was this morning. We saw warblers and other migrants.

I did not get to do my migratory bird photography workshops this spring. All the New Jersey state and county wildlife preserves were closed. 😢

Today I contacted the photographer, Ray Hennesey, to see what we can do now that restrictions are relaxed.

There are lots of online courses like Ray’s. Ray’s work is lovely. Much nicer to go in person. I did a couple of Warbler workshops in NJ years ago and stayed over night. I think it was with PEEK.

Ray responded that he’s booked (I guess some folks were less worried about COVID-19 than I was) until July. The north jersey warbler workshops only go to June. It’s a bit rough managing the Type 1 diabetes and a long early morning drive to south jersey for shore birds. It seemd I’ll have to wait for spring 2021.

My husband, Marc, is diabetic too. He takes snacks along for a long drive. I hope to go birding a bit this fall. This spring has been a wipe out.

Thanks you so much. One good thing about being sick for a while is I didn’t mind being at home.

The black-throated blue warbler is completely new to me. I’ve never heard of it — but what a lovely bird! It must have been wonderful to be out, and to see so many beautiful birds.

They are quite common here. We call the white wing marking a pocket handkerchief. Verry smart.

Lovely birds…it is good to see the arrival of spring though the temperatures are still a bit cool for the season in my area. (Suzanne)

I saw the crowds at the park this weekend — keeping their distance, of course.

We chose not to go on a weekend. The fair weather brought everyone out. 6-9 am Monday in the Ramble was almost empty.
