The Victorian Gothic style building was designed by architects Frederick Clark Withers and Calvert Vaux (who also helped design Central Park). It was erected (along with an adjacent prison and market) during the years 1875 to 1877.

    Such a beautiful door in this library. My take on the writing on the wall is, that it is distracting and taking away from the beauty of the architectural style (but, sigh, I can understand, so probably wanted to make it a less boring place for the students).

    Sorry I didn’t reply to your last comment – time got away from me at the end of last week ….you have plenty of accomplishments, telling me that you were determined not to let your learning disability hold you hostage. I admire that!

      I like the wall paper. It’s children’s writing, library stamps and quotes. I think it suits the place and not out of keeping with the architecture. All design is subjective 🤗

        That’s a great reminder, that all design is subjective. I guess I have a need to keep things “separated” (styles, etc.)

    Lovely shots, I’m fascinated by the wall writing, it’s just really unusual for the surroundings. At first, I thought the wall had been vandalized, but moved through the shots and realised it’s a deliberate design feature. What a lovely building, thanks for sharing…

      I read my books on kindle. I can read at night in bed or while out. Much easier to carry. I like making notes, saving bits, and bookmarking.
