I like the first picture better. It is more vibrant. Both are lovely, and you are working with one of y favorite colors. I like the fading in and out of the colors.

Thinking in “darkroom” terms I would burn in the main subject a little more and “hold back” the background – i.e. a greater difference in the light/dark content of the main subject and background. Not by much, but a bit more.

This one, although the colors themselves are lovely and vibrant, seems to have too much fogginess and not enough definition. I think I’d like to see more details on those intriguing shadowy background images.

Shallow depth of field is always a problem with macro images. It can often work to have the background totally foggy. To me the effect is like a partially done watercolor, with only a couple of flowers drawn in. Thanks, you made me put my intent into words.
